Safety Checklist

1. Kitchen Safety

  • Keep sharp objects (knives, scissors) and matches/lighters out of reach.
  • Store all chemicals, cleaning agents, and medicines in locked cabinets.
  • Use stove guards and turn pot handles inward while cooking.

2. Electrical Safety

  • Cover all electrical outlets with childproof covers.
  • Keep cords and wires out of reach and secured.
  • Avoid leaving devices like irons, kettles, or heaters unattended.

3. Fire & Burn Safety

  • Teach children to stay away from fire and hot surfaces.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher and first-aid kit accessible.
  • Plan and practice a fire escape plan with the family.

4. Fall Prevention

  • Install safety gates near stairs and balconies.
  • Remove loose rugs, toys, or clutter that may cause tripping.
  • Use window guards or grills to prevent falls.

5. Water Safety

  • Never leave children unattended in the bathroom, bathtub, or around water.
  • Keep buckets of water covered and out of reach.
  • Store water tanks and wells securely closed.

6. Poison Prevention

  • Store all medicines, cleaning products, and insecticides out of children’s reach.
  • Label all containers clearly.
  • Keep emergency numbers for poison control on hand.

7. Choking Hazards

  • Keep small items like coins, marbles, and batteries away from toddlers.
  • Avoid giving small, hard foods to young children (e.g., nuts, grapes).
  • Ensure toys are age-appropriate and do not have detachable small parts.

8. Road & Outdoor Safety

  • Teach children to look both ways before crossing the road.
  • Use helmets and safety gear for cycling or skating.
  • Always supervise children in crowded outdoor spaces.

9. Safe Sleep Habits

  • Ensure cribs/beds are sturdy with no loose bedding or toys.
  • Keep baby monitors handy for infants.
  • Place infants on their back to sleep to prevent SIDS.

10. Emergency Preparedness

  • Post emergency contact numbers (ambulance, fire, police) near the phone.
  • Teach your child your home address and key contact numbers.
  • Regularly review and practice emergency drills (fire, earthquake, etc.).
